This custom made kitchen island featured a drop in maple cutting board which allowed access to a compartment below the top for storing recipes. The lower cabinet of the island was divided in half, lengthwise, so that the two sides provided different functions. One side was arranged with a bottom shelf, slide in cookie sheets, a compartment with one shelf and a large upper drawer with a built in knife rack. The other side had access to the bottom shelf, a compartment for hanging pots and a compartment with shelves. Each end was fitted with towel racks made by a local blacksmith. This island is made from quartersawn African mahogany. It’s truly amazing how many functions can be packed into one piece of furniture!
